Whenever someone (often innocent) gets hurt or killed by a cop OR a cop gets hurt or killed, the chorus of cop apologists come out in full force singing their, “all cops are good no matter what” song. I never understood that line of thinking. We know that’s not true in ANY other profession. There are corrupt doctors, teachers, artists and even *gasp* cops! Which is to be expected in any field, as long as they are dealt with appropriately. They should have to learn from the natural consequences of their actions just like everybody else. I don’t know what irks me more – corrupt cops or the army of copsuckers that will rush to their defense no matter what the circumstance.
Here is a list of common, cop apologists’ quotes and my rebuttals:
“A cop gets shot and where’s the outcry? I thought all lives matter?”
Of course, ALL lives matter. Fortunately, the people who shoot the cops will have some serious consequences to pay and will likely end up in jail–exactly where they belong!!
The outcry for people like Kelly Thomas, Eric Garner and all other police victims, isn’t SOLELY because of cops that shoot/beat/kill people (that often don’t deserve to die). It’s because cops shoot/beat/kill people and THEN there are NO penalties/consequences other than a paid vacation. The last part is what makes people insanely angry, rightfully so. Nobody deserves to die(or get injured) unnecessarily and everybody deserves justice.
“Go put on a uniform and have a gun pulled on you. We’ll see how long you last”
I never understood the, “you go be a cop” argument either. Becoming a cop is a decision they make (not me) and they should know the risks involved, such as being shot. I’m empathetic towards the ones that do get hurt, but that doesn’t automatically make me wanna excuse the ones that engage in police misconduct and hurt OTHERS. This argument highlights the level of unwavering adoration and hero worship people have for men with shiny badges.
