The following story was sent in via CopBlock.org’s submission tab by Skyler Chandler, who’s high school friend Jeremy Lett was killed by Tallahassee Police on February 4th, 2015.
Skyler states:
Hey Cop Block,
I enjoy your page, and sadly, my high school friend – Jeremy Lett – was murdered by the police in Tallahassee, Florida recently. I just had to attend his funeral. He was unarmed in front of the apartments he lived in and was shot dead because he “matched” the description of a burglary suspect. The cop has a long history of abuse and corruption (see video below). Jeremy had no criminal record, no enemies, was one of the most friendliest guys in my class and a joy to be around. He didn’t care who you are or what race you were, he was kind to everyone. I know not everyone likes Christians, but he was a God fearing Christian man that lived like everyone should without hating everyone. He loved life and his family. Is there any way you could share this meme I made. Or write an article on his death. It would be greatly appreciated I don’t want my old friend’s death to be pushed under the table. No one deserved to be shot while the whole blocks staring.
– Skyler Chandler
I’m so sorry for your loss Skyler and I hope you can find justice for Jed soon. Unfortunately, it seems Tallahassee Police have a problem with using excessive force, as mentioned in the video above, and with “Commissioner” Scott Maddox saying, “I’m always going to side with them” I can tell this isn’t going to be an easy fight for those who loved Jed.
It’s utterly pathetic that David Stith is on paid administrative leave while you have to attend funerals. Adding insult to injury, as you mentioned in your submission, is the fact that Stith has been suspended twice before; for acting inappropriately around Girl Scouts and for failing to follow orders (if only he took that to its logical conclusion). If Stith is able to keep his job it would nothing more that complete and utter disrespect to everyone in the community. Yet, with police investigating police, sadly, it would probably be more surprising if they actually fired him. Welcome to the police state, where killer cops go on paid administrative leave.
Consider calling the Tallahassee PD (number below) and/org posting on their Facebook Page to request that they fire David Stith and seek justice for Jed.
