Cop Lets His Attack Dog Loose, 4-yr-old Child is Mauled So Badly that His Leg is Amputated

RIALTO — A 4-yr-old boy will have to live the rest of his life with only one leg, after a police attack dog was allowed to get loose and maul his body.

The attack dog belongs to the child’s father, who is a Rialto Police Officer.

The child is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Loma Linda California.

The dog mauled him so badly and for such an extended length of time that his leg had to be amputated.

One can only imagine the fear and agonizing pain that the 4-yr-old went through as the animal ripped through his skin and muscle tissue with its fangs.

The animal began attacking the child on Sunday afternoon at Officer Michael Mastaler’s home in Hesperia, CA, according to reports.

Officer Mastaler decided to release the attack dog from its kennel while his child was inside playing video games.

Officer Mastaler then left the dog free to roam around the yard while he went in his room to change, no longer supervising the child, according to reports.

That’s when the 4-yr-old boy went outside.

The animal, being trained to attack humans, charged the child and began attacking him.

Officer Mastaler did not shoot the dog, and it is unknown where he was as this attack occurred — presumably in his bedroom changing.

The child’s screams were so loud that a neighbor ran into the yard and tried to kick the dog away in order to save the child’s life.

But the dog would not release its teeth from the child’s leg, forcing the neighbor to physically pry open the animal’s jaws while two other teenagers from the neighborhood pulled the child away from the dog.

Officer Mastaler will not be facing any discipline and the incident has been judged to be an accident.

The police are currently deciding whether the animal will be used in service again, according to reports. 

As a result of the amputation, the child will have to use an artificial leg for the rest of his life.
