CT bill would give residents another chance to have their guns confiscated


Connecticut State Representative Craig Miner (R) (a “fierce gun-rights advocate,” according to the New York Times) wants owners of so-called “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines who missed the registration deadline over a year ago to have another chance. From the Republican-American:






State Rep. Craig Miner, R-Litchfield, wants to provide gun owners a second chance for registering semiautomatic firearms and ammunition magazines that became illegal to possess last year.






Miner’s HB 6582, “an act concerning the deadline for registering an assault weapon and declaring possession of a large capacity magazine,” is curiously silent on just how long this “second chance” would be made available to Connecticut’s “gun criminals.”






Miner’s bill is likely not to be well received by Ron Pinciaro, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence, who didn’t want the deadline extended even as far back as last February, according to a quote in the Journal Inquirer:
